Unions to sue SNCB

Unions are considering the possibility of suing SNCB, reveal dailies La Libre Belgique and L’Echo on Thursday. CGSP Cheminots (railroad workers’ union) and CSC Transcom (public transport union) want to show their opposition to measures voted by simple majority of managers at a Join National Committee on Wednesday.

Unions reckon that the new measures aiming to improve railway productivity, as recommended by the government, should have been approved with a two-thirds majority.

The cancellation of double wages on bank holidays falling on a Saturday or Sunday, and even more,  the lengthening of the work week from 36 to 37 hours with no wage compensation are especially unacceptable for unions. “34,000 SNCB employees have been robbed,” says Isabelle Bertrand, National Secretary of CSC Transcom. On Thursday, the two unions will consult with a Liège law firm as to whether legal action against the railway company.
