Prison officers start strike

Strike action was launched in 34 Belgian prisons at approximately 10:00pm on Thursday. Whereas CSC union will finance its striking members until 6:00am on Saturday, December 19th, CGSP union will do so until 6:00am on Tuesday, December 22nd.

Unions, the Directorate General of Prisons, and the Ministry of Justice have been negotiating for months, on the subjects of staff shortages and savings expected in particular. The last meeting to date took place on Tuesday, and could not satisfy unions which decided to act on their threats.

If no positive answer to our demands can be found,” other actions will follow, had threatened CGSP. Strikes are likely between Sunday, December 27th from 10:00pm and Wednesday, December 30th at 6:00am, and between Sunday, January 3rd at 10:00pm and Thursday, January 7th at 6:00am.

CSC and SLFP unions announced however that they will not join these new protests between Christmas and the New Year.
