More and more women in liberal professions

In ten years, the number of people in liberal professions – such as doctors, architects, lawyers – has increased by 65%. A third of all freelancers now work in one of these types of professions. This increase is mainly due to women, Het Nieuwsblad reported on Sunday.

The number of freelancers went up by a fifth during the same period. Christine Mattheeuws, from the Neutral Union for Freelancers (SNI), says it is just a matter of time before liberal professions become the biggest group of freelancers.

These professions are becoming more and more feminine, with 45% of the jobs occupied by women. In certain sectors, like Pharmaceuticals, they are the majority.
