New from 1 April: Fight against job discrimination stepped up
Tuesday, 27 March 2018
From 1 April, social inspectors will be authorized to pose as clients or potential jobseekers to unmask presumed discrimination at the company they are investigating, under a law containing various labour provisions that was published on 15 January last in the Monitor, Belgium’s official gazette. Following a complaint, a data-mining and data-matching inquiry will be conducted. Should it reveal objective signs of discrimination, social inspectors will be able to pose as customers, potential customers, employees or potential employees to check whether discrimination based on any legally protected criteria has been, or is being, committed.
