The unemployment rate in the eurozone fell in February to 8.5% compared to 8.6% in January and 9.5% a year ago, Eurostat said Wednesday. This has been the lowest unemployment rate in the eurozone since December 2008.
Among all the Member States in European Union, the unemployment rate stood at 7.1%, compared to 7.2% in January and 8.0% in February 2017. This has also been is the lowest rate of unemployment since September 2008.
According to the European statistics office, 17.632 million men and women were unemployed in the EU in February, including 13.916 million in the eurozone. In one month, the number of unemployed decreased by 201,000 in the EU and by 141,000 in the eurozone. In one year unemployment fell by 1.988 million people in the EU and 1.436 million among the countries that use the euro.
