The management of De Lijn transport company has expressed regret at the fact that the socialist and liberal trade unions representing some of their workers have lodged strike notice. “We remain open for dialogue,” a spokesperson of the Flemish public transport company reacted on Thursday.
The public service federation, ACOD, and the liberal trade union, ACLVB, have lodged strike notice for 17 to 20 May. The two unions are protesting against the fact that management has not accepted their demand for De Lijn to modify its reorganization plan. The Christian federation, ACV, has not called for a strike, preferring to await a conciliation meeting scheduled for Monday, the 7th of May.
"We deplore the strike notice, but we are focusing on Monday’s conciliation,” the De Lijn spokesperson said, stressing that the reorganization plan is aimed at making the public transport company more flexible and efficient.
A one-day strike had been organized in mid-February against the reorganization plans, which would reduce the number of managers and workers the company needs by 286, out of a total of 1,780. However, redundancies are not on the agenda.
