A third of Belgian workers receive meal vouchers, according to the service provider RH Acerta’s study carried out on 40,000 workers. It is more often employees (40%) who receive them, rather than blue collar workers (16%). Meal vouchers have been in existence for over 30 years. They still have a promising future, estimates Acerta’s legal expert. “The recent offer to convert them into immediate buck cash did not come through. For as the years went by, meal vouchers acquired a token worth of their own: it will not be easy anymore for those who receive these vouchers to let them go.’’
64.8% of companies which only have employees give meal vouchers. Within those that only employ blue collar workers, this percentage reaches 10.1%. Meal vouchers as an added advantage in a salary package are more popular within the commercial sector (29%) than within the non-commercial (23%). What also transpires from the figures is that the larger the firm, the more likely it will introduce meal vouchers.
