Océade closes the doors for the last time

Water amusement park Océade, situated on the Heysel plateau, will close its doors to the public for all time tomorrow, according to plans for the shopping and leisure centre Neo. The park was opened close to the Atomium in 1988 by a French group which operated a similar facility in France, close to Strasbourg. It was taken over by Walibi in 1992. It was later taken over by the American owners of Six Flags, before both Océade and Mini-Europe were bought back by Thierry Meeus, son of the original founder.

Since then, Océade became the third most visited attraction in the capital, with 7 million visitors, 3.2 million of them from Brussels itself.
