Over four million people work in Belgium

Over four million people worked in Belgium as at September 2018, while the number of unemployed persons continued to decline, according to data from the national social security and national employment offices, ONSS and ONEM, released on Friday by Labour Minister Kris Peeters. The number of people with jobs went up by 1.8% (73,000 persons) to 4,006,401 individuals. The increase was highest in Brussels (+ 3.3%), while employment went up by 1.6% in Flandes and Wallonia. Among workers in the 50 and over age group, the increase in the number of workers was 33,700 units, close to 3%. Among young people the increase was smaller: 1,4%. 

In September 2.4 million persons worked in Flanders (60.6%), 1,15 million (28.8%) in Wallonie and 330.000 (8.3%) in Brussels. Unemployment dropped by 7.4%, affecting 351,466 persons.
