Air traffic disrupted at several airports in Belgium

Belgian air traffic controllers have continued their strike actions on Thursday leading to occasional traffic interruptions in several airports. The actions will happen from 6 to 9 am in Charleroi, 6:30 to 8:30 am in Antwerp, 7:15 to 9:15 am in Ostend and are going on from 10 am to 3 pm in Liège, as announced by Skeyes spokesperson, manager of Belgian airspace Dominique Dehaene. (Skeyes is the trademark for the autonomous public company Belgocontrol : air traffic control, training, etc.)

"Disturbances are also expected in Brussels but we do not know yet at what time. It will depend on the number of controllers present," Dehaene continued.

At Charleroi airport, departure flights had been delayed until at least 9 am, and two incoming flights were delayed slightly.

Social tension among staff at Skeyes is due to several issues, such as career interruption, appointments and bonuses, etc., as well as because of the Steenokkerzeel new staff training centre, right next to Brussels Airport.
