Workers march in Brussels on Friday for a “fairer Europe”

A march “for a fairer Europe for workers” will be held on Friday in Brussels at the initiative of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), the confederation announced on Wednesday in a press release. The demonstration will start at 10:30 AM at the Place du Luxembourg and end at the Avenue d'Auderghem, close to the European Council and European Commission buildings.

The aim of the march and rally is to draw public attention to the European elections of May 23-26.

“This year’s European elections are the most important ones we’ve known in the past few decades,” said ETUC General Secretary Luca Visentini. “We call on all citizens to vote, to vote for the candidates and parties that will fight for a fairer Europe for workers.”

He also urged Europeans not to allow themselves to be taken in by far-right, anti-European and ultra-nationalist parties which, he said “offer no solution to the problems facing workers today.”

The confederation expects some 10,000 people to take part in Friday’s march.
