Flanders had just over 180,000 jobseekers at the end of April, the lowest figure since December 2008, according to data from Flemish Minister for Labour Philippe Muyters (N-VA) and the Flemish employment agency, VDAB. Regional unemployment numbers have been in freefall for 45 months now. The 180,345 jobseekers registered at the end of April were 12,400 (6.4%) fewer than in April 2018.
The drop is reflected in all age groups and at all education levels, in short-term as well as long-term unemployment.
The region’s unemployment rate is 5.88%.
