The UK government cannot yet say how changes to the lockdown policy will be implemented - or how quickly they will happen, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Monday.
Speaking upon his return to work, Johnson said that "we simply cannot spell out now how fast or slow, or even when, those changes will be made."
"Clearly the government will be saying much more about this in the coming days," he added. "These decisions will be taken with the maximum possible transparency."
Johnson said he would not "throw away the sacrifice of the British people" by easing lockdown restrictions too quickly, adding that it is his aim to get the economy moving as fast as possible.
Johnson returned to work on Monday amid significant pressure for an exit strategy from lockdown restrictions in the UK. The PM was discharged from hospital on 12 April and before spending time recovering at Chequers, the Prime Minister’s country house in Buckinghamshire, with his fiancée Carrie Symonds.
Currently, the UK's lockdown measures are due to be reviewed again by 7 May.
