Biocartis, a company from Mechelen, has developed a test which can detect the Ebola virus in just 90 minutes. They have applied to use this test in West Africa, at the heart of the Ebola epidemic. “Biocartis asked for a field study to be undertaken in West Africa in order to gather more clinical data on how the test performs,” explained the company.
The rapid test was developed jointly with Janssen Diagnostics and the tropical medicine institute in Antwerp.
