Closure of 92 farms due to bovine tuberculosis

A dairy farm in Limbourg has been quarantined and all livestock slaughtered after bovine tuberculosis was found to be present. About 92 similar farms have been closed down after bovine tuberculosis showed up on BCG tests, reported Mediahuis press on Friday. A Meeuwen farm tested positive for bovine tuberculosis.  Mycobacterium bovis, the causative agent for bovine tuberculosis, is a slow-growing bacterium, meaning that confirmation of infection or non-infection by culturing may take up to 8 weeks.
