Level 2 warning phase of high temperatures plan in force Wednesday

The level 2 warning phase of the “Ozone and high temperatures” plan to be instated from Wednesday to Sunday, given the forecast for high temperatures in the coming days, announced Tuesday Cellule interrégionale de l'Environnement (CELINE). “IRM forecasts a mean minimum temperature above 18°C and a mean maximum temperature above 30°C for at least three consecutive days” beginning Wednesday, explained CELINE, leading the agency to put in place the level 2 high temperatures warning phase.

The “ozone” aspect of the plan has not yet been instated, given that the warning threshold will not be reached neither on Tuesday nor on Wednesday. However, the risk of surpassing the European information threshold of 180 µg/m3 will increase in the coming days, with further information being provided accordingly.

At the onset of the level 2 warning phase, notices were sent to the Walloon ministers of Health and of the Environment, and also to health professionals, hospital services, retirement homes, and home healthcare services.

The “ozone and high temperature” plan is a structure for the management of high temperatures and of the related ozone peaks. The plan is made up of three phases: preparedness, activated from May 15th to September 30th; warning, divided into two phases, depending on whether the forecast is for two or three consecutive days; and alert, if the measures already taken need to be heightened.
