Higher hospitalisation fees in the offing

According to the medical index published in July, insurance companies and mutual funds will be able to adapt their individual hospitalisation, outpatient, and dental-care fees to increases in health care costs, De Tijd and L’Echo reported on Thursday. Health insurance premiums that cover admission into individual rooms may increase on average by 1.38% compared to last year. The rate would depend on the age of the individual and may increase by up to 6.91%.

The highest increases in maximum costs relate to outpatient care, i.e. the cost of medical attention that does not require admission into hospital, such as kinesitherapy or medication - and dental care. Such costs may go up on average by 11.52% and 15,65% respectively.

Insurers and mutual funds are not obliged to apply the approved hikes right away. Some will only do so in autumn.
