Supermarket chain Colruyt has issued a recall notice for its cheese croquettes, after they were found to contain traces of shrimp. Seafood such as shrimp can cause an allergic reaction in some people. Croquettes containing shrimp are also not suitable for people following certain diets.
The croquettes concerned are part of the Everyday range of the supermarket’s own-brand selection. The deep-freeze packets come in 600g sizes, with an expiry date of 9 August 2020.
The decision to withdraw the product was made in conjunction with the federal food safety agency. The labelling includes no indication of the danger of the presence of shrimp.
Both cheese and shrimp croquettes are commonly presented on menus in Belgium, sometimes together. The Colruyt case is evidently a problem of cross-contamination.
The chain has advised customers who may be allergic to bring the product back for a refund. Anyone who has consumed the product inadvertently should consult a doctor. For anyone who is not allergic to seafood, however, there is no danger.
