As of 1 July, disposable plastic items will be banned at public space events held in Brussels. The Mayors and Aldermen College has compiled a list of prohibited items.
The measure was taken in the context of the Climate Plan adopted by the City to contribute to the reduction of pollution.
The ban targets disposable items such as straws, cups, cutlery or trays. An alternative will be proposed for each of these objects.
The list was circulated to public space event organizers and non-compliance with the regulation may result in an administrative fine.
In taking this decision, the City of Brussels intends to lead by example in this area and hopes to be an inspiration to other cities.
An assessment of the measure is planned in 2020.
