Six guards from the Forest prison hurt by a prisoner

Six guards from the Forest prison were injured in an incident with a prisoner on Sunday morning, said Laurent Sempot, spokesman for the penitentiary administration. This confirms information that appeared on sudinfo.be. Mr Sempot did not want to give the prisoner’s identity, but according to the sudpresse site, it was Rachid El Boukhari. He was sentenced to 27 years in prison at the beginning of December for starting a fire in the Rida mosque in Anderlecht. The circumstances surrounding Sunday morning’s incident have not yet been determined. Two of the guards attacked by the prisoner were seriously injured, and one had to undergo an emergency operation. Four others were slightly injured.

Rachid El Boukhari set fire to the Rida mosque on the 12th of March 2012 at around 7pm. The mosque is in the rue Docteur de Meersman in Anderlecht. The fire caused the death of one man, Abdellah Dahdouh, the Imam of the Shiite mosque. Three other people were also injured.

He said the fire was his revenge on Shiite Muslims, who he holds responsible for crimes against Sunnite Muslims in Syria.
