On Friday, the Federal Prosecutor’s office confirmed it issued, on January 16th a new wanted notice related to the attack on the Jewish museum in Brussels on March 24th 2104. The judiciary are looking for a man who was filmed several days after the attack, in the company of Mehdi Nemmouche, the main suspect in this case. “We would like to question this man about his presence in Brussels,” said the Federal Prosecutor’s office, who declined to make any further comment on the ongoing investigation.
The wanted notice has been displayed on the Federal Police website since January 16th “at the request of Brussels public prosecutor” - not the Federal Prosecutor’s Office - as well as “the investigating judge” in charge of the case. The video shows two men - the wanted person whose face is not hidden but is difficult to make out, and another individual who has been intentionally blurred out, which is actually Mehdi Nemmouche. The two men are walking side by side on Boulevard Albert II in Brussels, not far from the Gare du Nord train station where the main suspect bought a bus ticket to Marseille. The scene lasts about ten seconds and was filmed by a surveillance camera on May 28th, 2014, four days after the attack on the Jewish Museum.
Mehdi Nemmouche as arrested in Marseille on May 30th, in possession of a gym bag identical to the one containing weapons and carried by the attacker when he opened fire at the museum. The main suspect was handed over to the Belgian authorities on July 29th and is currently in custody. He completely denies having anything to do with the May 24th attack which killed four people, three of which died instantly.
