The Brussels Appeal Court fixed the dates for the appeals in the match fixing case on Thursday. They will be in September and October. Most of the people convicted by the Brussels Correctional Tribunal in June as part of the case have chosen to appeal. The case concerns widespread corruption in Belgian Football between 2004 and 2006. The Court has fixed the dates for the appeals as the 24th and 25th of September 2015 and the 1st, 2nd, 8th, 9th, and 15th of October 2015. The sessions will take place all day on the Thursdays and just the morning on the Fridays.
The main defendant, Zheyun Ye from China, was sentenced by default to five years in prison by the Court of First Instance. He was convicted for talking to D1 clubs La Louvière and Lierse, and some D2 clubs, about fixing matches.
The former trainer for Lierse football club, Paul Put, was given a suspended sentence of two years in prison, which he contested, for corruption. He has also appealed.
The player’s agent Pietro Allatta was sentenced to thirty months in prison for organized crime, money laundering, tax fraud and fraudulent bankruptcy. He too has appealed.
The former president of La Louvière football club, Filippo Gaone, and the club’s lawyer were sentenced to ten and six months in prison for abuse of social property, and have also appealed.
Finally, the former assistant trainer for Lierse football club, Patrick Deman, and former players Laurent Delorge, Yves Van Der Straeten and Marius Mitu were given suspended prison sentences for corruption. They have all appealed.
