J.F, the 42 year old Dutch national suspected of attacking a 52 year old cleaner with acid in a Delhaize supermarket in Antwerp on the 20th of February, has been found guilty of extortion and attempted murder. He was extradited to Brussels from France on Tuesday. He partially confessed to extorting Delhaize. He was transferred to Saint-Gilles prison, the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office revealed on Tuesday. J.F arrived at the Brussels federal judicial police station at around 10.30am. He was questioned, with his lawyer present. The interview was calm as he exercised his right to remain silent.
At around 3.30pm, J.F arrived at the Portalis building in Brussels, to wait his turn in front the investigating judge. At 5.30pm, he was summoned, and questioned. The suspect partially confessed to extorting Delhaize. His lawyer requested that his client be seen by a group of psychiatric experts to determine his mental state.
While with the investigating judge, J.F chose Dutch as the language for the proceedings. Over the next month, the French-speaking investigating judge initially assigned will be taken off the case, and it will be handed to a Dutch-speaking judge.
J.F will appear before the Brussels Grand jury next Friday, who will rule on preventative custody.
