A Belgian sentenced to 8 years in prison for rape and sexual assault in Hong Kong

A Belgian business man, the former head of a Chinese renewable energy company, was sentenced to eight years in prison for rape and sexual assault on Friday. These incidents are thought to have taken place during two business trips to Hong Kong in 2013, the South China morning post said on its website. On Thursday, the seven members of the jury unanimously found Laurent F., 36, guilty of raping a young female Hong Kong resident, and sexually assaulting another. These incidents happened while he was in Hong Kong in 2013. He was acquitted of a third presumed rape.

According to the defense, the Chinese company Hanergy Holding ended his contract when the case came to light.

Laurent F., who found his victims on social networks, pleaded not guilty. He claimed the sexual relations were consensual.
