Belgian Police officer arrested for possessing and spreading child pornography

An officer with the Brussels Federal Judicial Police (PJF) was placed under arrest by an investigating judge on Friday, for possessing child pornography. The Brussels Prosecutor’s office revealed the arrest on Tuesday, which confirms information published by VTM. The officer, who is in his forties, will appear before the Brussels Council Chamber on Wednesday. The investigation into this case was opened a little over a year ago, due to information received from the United States. The Brussels Prosecutor’s office opened an investigation in 2014, which led to a suspect being identified.

“After we had identified him, we decided to ask an investigating judge to prosecute him for possessing, producing and spreading child pornography”, says Van Wymersch, the Prosecutor’s office’s spokesman. “The suspect was taken into custody, and went before an investigating judge. He was placed under arrest and charged with possessing and spreading child pornography. The charge of producing the pornography was dropped”.

A large amount of compromising material was found on the suspect’s computer. He denies all the charges against him.
