The Brussels appeal court sentenced Kanchit N., a cook from Thailand, to 8 years in prison on Monday. He was found guilty of raping a 75 year old woman. The particularly violent incident took place in Brussels late on the 20th of August and the early hours of the 21st of August 2014. The victim, a 75 year old woman, was sexually assaulted three times that night. Kanchit N. had previously been taken in by the victim’s partner when he found himself homeless.
During the evening of the 20th of August 2014, he went back to the couple’s house when the victim was alone. He forced his way inside the house, and violently raped her.
The court sentenced him to 8 years in prison, through the Court of First Instance. The jury said the victim’s detailed account was very credible, and DNA evidence supported it. The man had already been convicted of several rapes with confinement in 2000. These incidents took place in 1997 and 1998.
