On Saturday morning, a 16-year-old pressed charges, along with his mother, against several policemen after he was punched in the head and had to have stitches. The assault took place during a spot check on Friday evening between 9:00 pm and 10:45 pm in front of number 67 Boulevard Mettewie in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, according to Sudpresse on Monday. On the same day, the spokesperson for Brussels-West police division, Johan Berckmans, confirmed that a complaint had been recorded at the police station of that zone. He added that police were called out to the scene after they received calls from the neighbours claiming there was too much noise. It was in fact Federal Police who arrived on the scene, at the request of the local brigade. Brussels-West zone’s internal audit department is to collate all information about this case and transfer it to the Federal Police Service.
The young boy and 2 of his friends were waiting at the Candries bus stop when an unmarked car pulled up alongside them. The boy claims a policeman punched him directly and completely out-of-the-blue, after which a check of the youths’ ID was made.
After the incident, the young boy went to his 19-year-old cousin’s house, where he said he’d blacked out for several seconds. His cousin’s mother took them both to the hospital, where the boy’s injury required stitches.
