Acid attack at Delhaize – Council Chamber extends arrest warrant against suspect Jelle F.

Jelle F., the man suspected of throwing acid on a cleaner at supermarket chain Delhaize on February 20th, 2015, will spend at least another month in jail. Brussels’ Council Chamber decided on Thursday to extend the arrest warrant against him. The police investigation in the case is over, as it was last month. The only element missing is the prosecutor’s final request. Forensic psychiatrists deemed the suspect sane after examining him.

The 42-year-old Dutch man was arrested by French police on the night of March 5th, following a routine roadside check near Paris. Belgian authorities had been looking for him for months for harassing the Delhaize group and for attacking the cleaning lady with acid.

French policemen found a weapon in the suspect’s vehicle, as well as credit cards used in the harassment case. The man eventually confessed, shortly after being transferred to Belgium on March 17th. Psychiatrists assessed him last month and found him to be sane, but with some psychopathic and anti-social tendencies.

The man was charged with extortion and attempted murder at first. This last charge was later changed to assault and battery resulting in permanent disability.
