Vervoort states “The debate on police zone merger is unavoidable”

The Minister-President for the Brussels-Capital region, Rudi Vervoort is questioned today (Monday) in an article in La Libre Belgique upon the merger of police zones, which the N-VA is calling for.
He asserts in black and white, “The debate on police zone merger is unavoidable.”

“It is for us to objectivise matters and to ensure that the police operate more efficiently,” Mr Vervoort states. “The idea which is currently being circulated is that of a single police force with mayors still retaining responsibility for riot control,” he further elaborates in La Libre Belgique.

Furthermore, the Socialist defends “the idea of a regional crisis centre which brings together all of our public services and the SIAMU (the Brussels fire and ambulance services), STIB (Brussels public transport) and Bruxelles Mobilité (responsible for highway traffic planning) etc., to share the burden of the security issue in a cross-cutting manner.”

This idea of a “Regional Crisis Centre, in which all of our services would work together, from social services to public transport,” is also mentioned in Le Soir, based upon Francophone ideas in the Flemish press.
