Two youth attempt to rob a young man through a false Facebook profile

Two individuals were arrested for attempted theft with violence against a young man Saturday night at Andenne, after having created a false profile on Facebook setting a trap, revealed Monday the Prosecutor’s Office of Namur. For about a fortnight, one of the two individuals passed off as a girl, who does not exist, through a false profile on Facebook.

Communication on the social network ended up in a rendezvous Saturday night at a park in Andenne. “It was clearly an ambush,” according to the Deputy Prosecutor of the King in charge of the case, since money and the GSM of the victim, a man born in 1992, were sought. The victim was able to defend himself in a scuffle with the attackers and to escape, thus avoiding being robbed by the thugs.

A first suspect, a young adult, was initially identified. He faced an investigating judge who applied alternative measures to pre-trial detention. He was therefore conditionally released. The second suspect, a minor, was later identified. He appeared Monday before a youth judge.

Neither of the individuals have prior police records in Namur. The young victim suffered injuries from blows received during the fight.
