A third person was charged in the case of false temporary residence documents in Mons, stated Thursday morning the Prosecutor’s Office of that city. The person is the coordinating official in charge of identification for “foreigners” and “driver’s licences” of the Municipality; he has been charged in addition to two other persons accused in mid-September.
The coordinating official in charge of IDs for foreigners and driver’s licences of the City of Mons was charged Wednesday in the case of the traffic of residence certificates for foreigners in exchange for payments. The individual was freed.
In mid-September, arrest warrants were issued for two persons: a municipal public servant from Mons and an individual from Nivelles who presumably played the roles of contact persons in the case.
Approximately ten searches were carried out last September 13th and 14th by the Federal Judicial Police (PJF) in the foreigners service unit of Mons, and in several homes of Mons and Nivelles, in the sphere of this case of a distribution chain of payments for false temporary resident permits in Belgian territory. The objective of the false permits was to avoid foreigners being declared illegally present in the country.
The King’s Prosecutor of Mons made reference in mid-September to sums of between 4,000 and 5,000 euros per case, of which there are several dozens. The City of Mons has not made declarations on this third charge, stating that the investigation is in process.
