Police arrest a fugitive on the ‘Belgium’s most wanted’ list

Police have arrested a fugitive who was among the top 20 most wanted Belgian criminals (convicted) on Friday evening. The list was published on the website ‘Belgium’s most wanted’ on Saturday, La Dernière Heure and Het Laatste Nieuws reported later that day.

“We can confirm that there was an arrest yesterday, thanks to an email sent to our new site.  At around 6.15pm, the Fast (Fugitive Active Search Team) unit received a tip-off that someone on the most wanted list was in Dilbeek. It also gave a precise location. When the Fast team arrived, it put an observation team in place. It was later able to arrest Marc De Block”, federal police spokesman Peter De Waele confirmed.

The suspect was about to get into a car, which he had already loaded with suitcases. “He had seen he was among the 20 most wanted that day, and was getting ready to flee to France”, Peter De Waele said.

Marc De Block was sentenced to 7 years in prison by the appeal court in 2010, for drugs offences.
