Houses searched as part of a terrorism case, including two in Molenbeek: 5 suspects questioned

The Brussels Federal judicial police searched a series of houses Thursday night and early on Friday, as part of a Federal Prosecutor’s office terrorism case. This included two houses in Molenbeek Saint-Jean, one in Roosdaal and one in Ganshoren, the Prosecutor’s office revealed on Friday. 2 handguns, a bullet-proof jacket, ammunition and cannabis were seized. Five people were taken in for questioning.

An instruction judge who specialises in terrorism was due to decide whether they will be remanded in custody Friday evening or Saturday. The five suspects are thought to have participated in terrorist activities.

The Federal Prosecutor’s office said the case was nothing to do with the attacks in Paris on the 13th of November 2015, the Brussels/Zaventem attacks on the 22nd of March 2016 and Thursday’s shooting in Paris.

No more information will be released at the moment, in the interests of the inquiry.
