A couple from Herve were the victims of a heist kidnapping at their home on Friday evening, the Liège Prosecutor’s office revealed on Saturday. Three suspects were taken into custody, but later released as they turned out not to be involved.
An individual disguised as a postman turned up at the couple’s house at 10pm on Friday evening, followed by three other masked armed men. They took the victims hostage, handcuffed them and blindfolded them. They were taken to their company office, Trendy Foods Belgium, in the Petit-Rechain zone.
After they forced the couple to open the doors, the suspects filled the trunk of a car with cigarettes. A guard raised the alarm while they were getting ready to fill up a truck as well. The attackers then fled.
Three suspects in a nearby carpark were arrested. One of them had 5,000 euros in their possession. They were questioned by investigators, but later released.
