Interviews were held on Wednesday morning in the Vosges, France, in connection with the investigation into the death of Grégory Villemin (4 years old), who was murdered in 1982, writes the French daily newspaper, L'Est Républicain. Two persons in their seventies were arrested and placed in police custody. According to the newspaper, the names of the two persons have long been included in the investigation file. The couple was placed in custody for complicity in murder, non-denunciation of a crime, non-assistance to a person in danger and voluntary abstention from preventing a crime.
The Grégory affair is the biggest criminal enigma in French judicial history, says the daily. The child was found dead in the Vologne river on October 16, 1984. A first suspect, who was freed and released, Bernard Laroche, was later shot and killed by Jean-Marie Villemin, the father of little Gregory.
The mother of the child was also suspected before being proven innocent in 1993.
Investigators reopened the case twice after the year 2000 to carry out new DNA tests, but without success.
