Belgium, France to discuss where Abdeslam Salah will serve his sentence

The president of the French-speaking Brussels Court of First Instance, Luc Hennart, said at a press conference on Monday that Belgium and France would need to discuss where Abdeslam Salah will serve his sentence. “To know where he will serve his sentence, there will have to be a discussion between the Belgian and French governments,” Hennart said at a press conference at the Belgian Law Courts. “Ábdeslam Salah will serve his sentence either in France or in Belgium,” Hennart added. “It must be stated that [he] is under many provisional custodial measures.”

Salah Abdeslam was given a 20-year prison sentence on Monday at the 90th Chamber of the Brussels Correctional Court for attempted terrorist assassination. However, he could decide to appeal against the sentence, his lawyer, Sven Mary, stated.
