Dead body found in flaming car in Antwerp

A dead body was found in a burning car in the port of Antwerp during the night of Wednesday to Thursday, a police spokesperson in the port city confirmed on Thursday. It is suspected that the occupant of the vehicle was already dead when it was set on fire, although this still needs to be confirmed by investigators.

A laboratory and a forensic doctor were deployed to the scene of the incident during the night.

The fire service had received a call a little after midnight about a car in flames in a parking lot on the Sloepenweg in Antwerp. When the fire fighters arrived on the scene, they found a body in the vehicle, which had a French number plate.

An investigating judge has been designated to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
