Brussels: 135 citations, 12 brothels closed in Alhambra area in 2018

Last year, 135 citations were performed and 808 identity checks conducted in the Brussels’ Alhambra district, according to an assessment of police actions against uncivil behaviour linked to prostitution. The report was released Monday by City of Brussels Mayor Philippe Close’s office.

Police conducted 36 criminal arrests, of which 11 were sent to the King’s Prosecutor. They also submitted 17 reports to the Foreign Office and conducted 29 administrative arrests for both public drunkenness and disorder.

In addition, 42 establishments were inspected, and 12 brothels were closed following Federal Judicial Police targeted operations, conducted in collaboration with Brussels’ local police.

The mayor's office stressed that public safety and the fight against uncivil behaviour linked to prostitution and street deals constitute a "top priority" for the local police. Police presence has been amplified in response to such demands by the Alhambra neighbourhood committee.
