"I probably made mistakes, I deeply regret it" - Yvan Mayeur

On Friday, former mayor of the City of Brussels, Yvan Mayeur, sent a letter to the president of the SP vigilance committee announcing his resignation from the Socialist Party. "I probably made mistakes, I deeply regret it. I remain a socialist activist without a party", he wrote to Jacqueline De Baets.

Here is the full content of Mr Mayeur's letter, which Belga received a copy of.

"Dear Jacqueline,

Please register my resignation from the Socialist Party.

It is with a heavy heart that I write these words to you.

I am a socialist activist.

I have always wanted to act in the interests of our ideals, both in my department and at the grass-roots level, but also in the different functions I have had the honour of occupying in the parliament, the CPAS in Brussels, in hospitals and in the city of Brussels.

The Samusocial that I helped create allowed thousands of grandparents to be sheltered. We created 300 jobs in a difficult social sector.

I probably made mistakes, I deeply regret it. I also regret that I could not explain it to our regional authorities.

I thank you for informing the Commission of my resignation. Despite everything, they may wish to hear what I have related to the two delegates whom I met last week.

I remain a socialist militant, without a party".
