Paul Magnette doesn’t currently see a scenario of the PS governing with the N-VA

The former PS President Paul Magnette does not currently see a scenario where the PS could govern with the N-VA. This is due to the current social backsliding in Belgium initiated by the Federal government, of which the N-VA is part of.

“I cannot see a scenario where the PS and the N-VA govern together. If the policy of social regression at every level continues, as it has done for the three years the MR/N-VA government has been in place, you will not see the PS in power. We will not help dismantle the social security system, go along with the pension reforms, the index jump or making the job market more flexible”, the Charleroi mayor told the RTL-Tvi program “C’est pas tous jours dimanches” on Sunday.

When asked about the possibility of the former cdH Brussels MP Mahinur Ozdemir being on the PS list at the next elections, Paul Magnette said the conditions imposed by the Party were “the same for everyone”. The Party reaffirmed its commitment to State secularism via its “Ideas platform”.

“If it says it doesn’t want to recognise the Armenian genocide, it’s no”, says Paul Magnette. He did say he wasn’t aware of any eventual negotiations between Mrs Ozedemir and his party.

Paul Magnette thought it was somewhat excessive to associate the cdH with a system that opened the door to the Veviba fraud. “It’s a fact that the cdH has been present in agriculture for a long time. To say that makes it a system is a bit much”, said the head of the PS. It has been the opposition party at the Walloon Parliament since last summer.
