The Flemish Liberal party, Open VLD, kicked off its campaign for the October municipal elections on Wednesday in Huldenberg, Flemish Brabant, with a new slogan, “Gewoon doen” (Just do it). “When we hold a mayor’s seat, we take initiatives that make a difference for people”, commented Open Vld president Gwendolyn Rutten. “Sometimes it’s small things like repairing a pavement or creating a zebra crossing, but it’s also about big things. Look what Bart Somers did in Mechelen.”
The message Open Vld wants to send is simple and positive: things are going well in Flanders and must remain so. Beyond this slogan, the Flemish liberals also aim to highlight their performance results.
“We know you don’t win elections simply by campaigning” said Ms. Rutten. “The population does not attach that much importance to all the political posters. We wish to win thanks for what we’ve achieved, what we have done in the governments, in the parliaments and in the municipal councils.”
