Brussels will be governed by a majority from the Socialist party, Green Party and change.brussels

The candidates from the Socialist Party, Ecolo and change.brussels (dominated by sp.a, Flemish Socialist Party), have agreed to form the future majority, governing the City of Brussels. The socialist party, headed by Philippe Close, emerged victorious from the communcal elections, recording results close to what they obtained in the 2012 elections.

This came despite the scandal that hit the socialist party last year, revolving Brussels former socialist Mayor, Yvan Mayeur, accused of taking unwarranted financial remunerations from Samusocial, a non-profit organisation serving Brussels homeless. The party only lost one seat.

Ecolo-Groen recorded the most significant increase, in percentage and seats, compared to the 2012 votes.
