Members of the Brussels branch of Open Vld approved the manifesto for the 29th of May regional elections on Saturday.

The party has made Dutch-language education a priority.

The Brussels branch of Open Vld wants to create 3,500 extra spaces in Dutch-language nursery and primary schools and 5,000 extra secondary school spaces over the next 5 years. Dutch-language education is very popular in Brussels and the lack of spaces is often brought up.

Open Vld’s main candidate for the Brussels Parliament, Guy Vanhengel, said every 18-year-old Brussels resident should speak at least three languages: French, Dutch and English.

Among the other elements in the Dutch liberal party’s manifesto is abolishing registration fees for properties valued at 230,000 euros or less, abolishing the one percent registration fee for mortgages, an additional decrease in regional tax for private citizens and an increase in the Be Home bonus.

The party also wants to extend the metro.
