“Micro-companies” appear in Belgian accounting

The Central Economy Committee (CCE) has given a unanimous verdict on the transposition of the European directive on accounting. The “micro-company” category will now appear. According to the Employment Minister, Kris Peeters, 83% of the 385,000 Belgian companies could fall under this category, and be subject to the simplified accounting rules. This simplification is in the form of publishing their accounts annually, according to shortened schematics. They will no longer have to publish their yearly results, or name a commissioner. The criteria to qualify as a small business will depend on the number of staff, the turnover and the results. On the basis of the CCE’s verdict, a royal decree will be drawn up and sent to the Minister’s council.
