Belgian holders of Swiss bank accounts must pay up

Belgian customers of the HSBC branch in Switzerland must pay the State 540 million euros, after the tax department investigated holders of secret Swiss accounts. This was reported by L’Echo on Tuesday. The Belgian tax department has had information on accounts belonging to hundreds of Belgians since 2010, after a leak at the Swiss HSBC headquarters. Around 1,000 cases are being dealt with by the tax department, which should bring in around 540 million euros, including increments. The majority of those having to pay tax have made an agreement with the tax department, L’Echo has said.
