Four out of ten telemarketing companies do not respect the "do not call me again" list

Four out of ten telemarketing companies contact persons who are on the “do not call me again” list, showed a detailed survey carried out by Inspection économique between October 2015 and April 2016. In total, 1,470,368 calls from 70 companies active in this sector were the object of screening aimed at monitoring compliance with legislation. Twenty-eight companies, that is, 40% of all companies monitored, did not comply.

The “do not call me again” website (www.ne-m-appelez-plus.be) was launched on July 1st, 2015 and constitutes the sole list containing the telephone numbers of persons who no longer wish to receive telephone calls from telemarketers. The telemarketing companies are obligated to respect this list and to not make use of the numbers included on it.

“This survey shows that certain companies are defiant. We will therefore employ rigour against transgressors. Twenty-two companies have received administrative fines, and we have even initiated a legal procedure for the cessation of activities in the case of one company,” stated the Minister of the Economy and Consumers, Kris Peeters (CD&V).
