Peak of business loans in 2016

Business credit reached a peak of 140 billion euros at the end of 2016, according to figures from the Belgian Federation of the Financial Sector (Febelfin), says L'Echo in its Thursday edition. Outstanding loans to businesses reached 140.4 billion euros at the end of 2016, according to Febelfin figures. This is a record level of 5.5% over a period of one year. The persistence of low rates pushes companies to invest and to favour long-term borrowing, estimates L'Echo.

Several factors explain this favorable development, according to the federation, which refers in particular to the renewed optimism of entrepreneurs, who are preparing their credit files more correctly, and the restriction of the obstacles to credit granted by banks.
