The taxi plan drawn up under the initiative of Brussels Mobility Minister Pascal Smet (sp.a) has created tension within the Communal Front, which was created to oppose Uber and then the Minister’s plan. It is two days before members of the sector attend their first meetings with the Brussels Parliament’s Infrastructure Commission.
A statement from the Belgian Taxi Federation (FeBeT), Elite, Taxis United, ATB, UPETB and UPETTC last week spoke of their unanimous decision to give taxi drivers the opportunity to give the three months notice required to send back their “PDA”, the smartphones that connect them to Green Taxis.
Sam Bouchel, the FeBeT representative, submitted and confirmed a motion on Saturday: Green Taxis would leave the Communal Front, as they “support many aspects of the plan”, and by doing this act “against the interests of those that drive for them”, Mr Bouchal stated on behalf of the Communal Front.
