Businesses resort more and more to the Cloud or to social media

40% of Belgian companies pay for Cloud computing services, which is an increase of 11% when compared to 2016, the survey on the use of ITC and e-commerce in companies published by the SPF Economy General Direction of Statistics, shows Monday.

These services are especially appreciated by companies of at least 250 employees (76%), and by those involved in the ITC Sector (77%).

In 2017, 21% of Belgian companies of at least ten employees received on-line orders or via an application, which is an increase of 1% compared to the previous year. As far as companies of at least 250 persons are concerned, an increase of 2% has been noted, up to 43%.

One company out of five uses its own web site or its applications to receive orders on line. For those with at least 250 employees, this percentage reaches 43%. Concerning social media, 58% of the companies use it (+5% compared to 2016). These are mainly used to develop the company’s image, to commercialize products and to recruit personnel. In companies with at least 250 employees, the percentage reaches 88%.

In Belgium, almost all of the companies have internet access (99,6%), almost exclusively via a very large band connection. Nearly 9 companies out of 10 of at least 250 staff employ ITC specialists.
