AB InBev workers block warehouses countrywide

Protesting AB InBev workers blocked many of the giant brewery’s warehouses on Thursday, following the failure of negotiations on a collective labour agreement  (CLA) in the depots. “We were unable to reach agreement on the financial aspect,” Kris Croonenborghs of the socialist union explained. He said management wanted to move its depot from Hasselt and make some of its employees work in Louvain. “AB InBev is considering this type of operation for other warehouses, which is why we are negotiating a framework CLA that would apply in such cases”, Croonenborghs said.

On Wednesday, discussions stalled on the financial elements of the agreement. The workers are requesting compensation for additional travel and a motivation allowance.

The workers’ action will continue at least until the end of the day, Croonenborghs said, adding that they could even continue on Friday. “Management has not yet given us an indication that it wants to resume negotiations”, he commented.
